The Care of the Rural Mentally Ill Patient Resource, published by the College of Nursing in 1990, has been considered a valuable tool for undergraduate nurses working in rural areas. A review of the current literature reveals no new comparable resource available to clinical nurse specialist (CNS) faculty teaching in rural areas. The purpose of this article is to introduce a resource, Rural Care, designed specifically for faculty addressing the needs of clinically oriented, primarily undergraduate, nurses working in rural areas. Rural Care is designed to provide selected information on rural health care delivery systems that can assist in education of undergraduate nurses, and it is recommended for in-service faculty development. Rural Care offers undergraduate nurses an overview of the general issues in rural health care, and its 25 articles provide faculty with suggestions for teaching that would be beneficial for their students.
